Diabetes also increases the risk of kidney disease significantly; "About 30 percent of patients with Type 1 diabetes and 10-40 percent of those with Type 2" (NKF) end up having kidney failure. This is because, diabetes causes problems with nerves and blood vessels which increases water content and keeps the urine in the body. This can lead to difficulty in emptying the bladder and cause infection from the prolonged period of time that urine stays in the body.
